A dedicated student in his adelescence, Richard Long had a great interest of in a multitude of topics. Through mostly known for his work within the arts, Richard Long was a dedicated scholar of African Diasporic History, World History, and the Humanities. Long first began teaching at Morgan State University in 1950 and remained a Professer and or scholar until the time of his death in 2013. For roughly six decades, Long held a number of different "reseach endeavours" that he would explore. Such as, East Asian Dance in the late 1980s and early to mid 1990s, African Art in the 1960s, Medieval Literature in the 1950s, and Higher Education throughout the 1970s. Althrough Dr. Long's area of study is virtually endless, the humanities and Black people reamined central to his work.

Since the beginning of his teaching career at Morgran State, Dr. Long always thought of himself as a educator before anything else. Dispite Long's reburst travel schedule throughtout the decades, he always made time for his students and the craft of scholarship.
