In this document titled "We the Teachers of Oceanhill Brownsville Deny that Police Controlled Schools are Normal" (1963) Baird and other educators working within Brownsville Brooklyn address the urgent need to decrease police presence in schools with Black and Puetro students are the majority. In addition to the request of decreased police presence for black and brown students, this document addresses recent teacher strikes related to the police presence in Brownsville Ocean School District.
This document serves are reminder to Baird's belief that material conditions and envrioment of the student is just as important as the curriculum that they will learn from.
