The school had a two year program

Miss Jones married Sydney Jones, Secty

The state required a nine months affiliation
in a general Hospital included in the three
year program. Most affiliated at Grady
Memorial Hospital Atlanta, Ga.
The Cadet Corps Classes Affiliated at
The Medical College, Augusta, Ga.
Mrs. Jones was a native of Ohio. She
taught school a few years then went in
training for nurses. After graduation
she came to Milledgeville.
The Milledgeville School for Nurses trained
many outstanding young ladies. The school
was recognized as one of the best in Georgia.

Mrs. Jones was regarded as one of the
pioneers in Nursing.
Miss Mary Lou Banks, one of the officials
holding “State Board Examinations” stated
she could pick “MSH” students from other
schools just watching them work.
She was a member of the National
League of Education. She “pushed” for
better education for all students.
She was a truly professional in manner
dress and behavior.
She was strict but fair.
She taught “Nurse Ethics” and required
all girls to be strictly ethical with Drs,
Nurses and patients.
The employees of Milledgeville State
Hospital received medical and Hospital
Care along with their families.
So student and nurses received a
broad section of patient care.
There was no segregation of Patient
and employee.
The Hospital had some very special
surgeons, medical Drs, as well as
Psychiatrist. Mrs. Jones stressed membership in
School Alumna, District Nurses Association
Georgia Nurses Association and

Miss Jones Came to the Milledgeville
State Hospital [MSH] in 1911_ She
replaced Mrs Alice Cross Walker as
Superintendent of Nurses.
The school had a two year program
until 1916_ Went to a three year program.
Miss Jones married Sydney Jones, Secty
of the hospital_ No Children
The state required a nine months affiliation
in a general Hospital included in the three
year program. Most affiliated at Grady
Memorial Hospital Atlanta, Ga.
The Cadet Corps Classes Affiliated at
The Medical College, Augusta, Ga.
Mrs. Jones was a native of Ohio. She
taught school a few years then went in
training for nurses. After graduation
she came to Milledgeville.
The Milledgeville School for Nurses trained
many outstanding young ladies. The school
was recognized as one of the best in Georgia.

Mrs. Jones was regarded as one of the
pioneers in Nursing.
Miss Mary Lou Banks, one of the officials
holding “State Board Examinations” stated
she could pick “MSH” students from other
schools just watching them work.
She was a member of the National
League of Education. She “pushed” for
better education for all students.
She was a truly professional in manner
dress and behavior.
She was strict but fair.
She taught “Nurse Ethics” and required
all girls to be strictly ethical with Drs,
Nurses and patients.
The employees of Milledgeville State
Hospital received medical and Hospital
Care along with their families.
So student and nurses received a
broad section of patient care.
There was no segregation of Patient
and employee.
The Hospital had some very special
surgeons, medical Drs, as well as
Psychiatrist. Mrs. Jones stressed membership in
School Alumna, District Nurses Association
Georgia Nurses Association and
