Football
Prior to the construction of Centennial Stadium, later named Porter Stadium, all the schools played football at Central City Park. Ballard practiced at the school and played intown games at Centennial Stadium. The Macon Negro Classic pitted Ballard against: the Hudson High School Tigers, and the Central City College Lions. These teams played with soft helmets and very little padding.
Some of Ballard’s regular high school opponents were: Booker T. Washington High School (Atlanta, GA), Dorchester Academy (McIntosh County, GA), Eddie High (Milledgeville, GA), Gillespie-Selden Institute (Cordele, GA), Houston County Training School (Perry, GA), Hudson High School (Macon, GA), Knoxville Institute/Athens High (Athens, GA), Risley High School (Brunswick, GA), Spencer High (Columbus, GA), and Walker Baptist Institute (Augusta, GA).
Junior colleges and four-year institutions included: Beta Etta College (Macon, GA), Central City College Lions (Macon, GA), Forsyth Teachers College (Forsyth, GA), Henry Hunt High School (Fort Valley, GA), and Morris Brown College (Atlanta, GA)
